Richie Walsh

U19 Boys Head Coach

Richie’s passion for playing soccer began at a very young age. Starting competitive play in 1986 with LYSA Select and advancing through the Kentucky Kickers Soccer Club and Lexington United SC, club play helped prepare him for larger roles as captain of the KY Olympic Development Player state team, member of the Henry Clay varsity team, and as a Midwest Region II ODP pool player. Aside from individual accolades, Richie was blessed to play for three state title teams (two KY State Cup, one KHSAA title).

Mirroring his playing career, Richie’s coaching career also began at a young age. Richie joined the Kentucky Kickers SC coaching staff in 1995 spending one year as an assistant before moving up to a head coach. After collecting a first coaching state cup title in 1998 with the KKSC Hurricane, Richie became a coach on the inaugural Lexington FC coaching staff when LYSA Select and KKSC merged in the Fall of 1998.

Over the next 15 years, Richie continued as a head coach for LFC working with teams from U10 to U19, both boys and girls. During that same time, he worked as a KYSA outreach staff coach, spent a year as GK trainer for Henry Clay HS, one year as assistant at Lexington Catholic HS, two years on the UK soccer camp staff, and three years as a Kentucky state ODP staff coach. After adding three more KY State Cup titles coaching (‘99, ‘08, ‘09) and looking for a new challenge, Richie bought KY Indoor Soccer and Sports in 2015 and ran that facility until Spring of 2021.

In 2022, Richie joined the Trinity Christian Academy family as head coach for the Boys Varsity soccer team while also starting up both the Trinity middle school soccer program and the school youth club teams under the umbrella of Trident FC.
